A Post on our Past: Doing Their Bit

This week marked the anniversary of the armistice which ended the First World War (1914-1918).

Every year, on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month we pause to remember those men and women who have died or suffered in all wars, conflicts and peace operations.

Pictured in this week’s history post are a few of the many local young men who left home to ‘do their bit’ on a hope and a prayer they would return safely to their loved ones.

Taken at Nabiac – heading to Taree to catch the train to Sydney and then on to the training camps, Jock Affleck (driver), Vic Lulham behind in uniform, Jack Worth in front with flower, Herb Lulham seated with hat on knee.

A selection of portraits of servicemen who enlisted from the local area are on temporary display at Club Forster.
